Deutsche Bahn has been awarded the German Mobility Award 2019 for two innovative projects. The projects concern a mobility app and a mobile GP station called DB Medibus. Fleetaccess has a total solution including Fleetassist built into the DB Medibus.

The award focuses on innovations in transport and infrastructure that improve the quality of life in Germany. Deutsche Bahn introduced a vehicle aimed at the medical sector and an app specifically developed for intelligent mobility on demand. This app was developed specifically for the city of Hamburg and the surrounding area because the connection to public transport is not considered sufficient here.

DB Medibus - the mobile medical practice

The DB Medibus is an innovative way to improve access to medical infrastructure. Particularly for the elderly, it is still very difficult to find the way to the nearest doctor in rural areas. This innovation is therefore mainly aimed at less connected regions.

The buses have been converted by the Dutch VDL into a mobile practice for general medicine. It contains a consultation room, treatment room, waiting room and its own laboratory. As a result, the bus is in fact a mobile general practitioner's station and is equipped with all the necessary equipment.

Because the DB Medibus is very extensively equipped with the necessary medical equipment, the security of the bus was an important aspect during the development. In addition, the DB Medibus is a mobile practice and will be used in rural areas. That is why it is important to be able to follow where the vehicle is at all times and what its status is.

Fleetassist built into DB Medibus next to a custom made alarm system

For the security of the DB Medibus, the expertise of Fleetaccess was called upon. In addition to the need for an out-of-the-box security system, Deutsche Bahn also wanted a state-of-the-art vehicle tracking system to track the vehicles. Because Fleetaccess specialises in providing total solutions for fleets, Fleetaccess was able to install a Fleetassist tracking system in the DB Medibuses.

In this way, the DB Medibus is optimally protected against theft and burglary. Deutsche Bahn can also trace the location of the DB Medibus, its technical status and how the vehicles are handled at all times.
